Hiram: 2 Years + 3 Months
September 8, 2011 § 3 Comments
The third month of Hiram’s second year has been pretty awesome. Every day he surprises us with a new word, skill or assertion. Oh, and he’s grown almost 2 inches since June. Phew!
French Toast! Whenever he’s not helping to make actual food in our actual kitchen, Hiram loves to play with his new (hand-me-down, thanks Braeden!) kitchen in the play room. In Hiram’s opinion, this new play kitchen is a vast improvement over the cabinet and plastic bucket he was using before. Happily for Brad and me, he’s expanded his menu too. Now, in addition to pizza, you can also order french toast or pancakes.
Charge It: Hiram likes to play store and specializes in a broad array of products including pine cones, sticks and of course, french toast. The sign he’s a modern kid? When you give him your imaginary money, he makes a swipe sound and motion before handing it back.
Copy Cat: The other morning Brad and I were having our usual pre-day conversation about what to eat for dinner. Only this time, Hiram was copying our sentences word-for-word (including the inflections.)
Me: “I thought we could make hamburgers tonight” (Hiram: “I thought we could make hamburgers tonight.”)
Brad: “Ok.” (Hiram: “Ok.”)
Me: “So if you get home before we do, you could start the grill.” (Hiram: “So if you get home before we do you could start the grill.”)
Brad: “Sounds good.” (Hiram: “Sounds good.”)
Brad and I both assumed this was a major verbal milestone so we tried to play it cool. Probably my favorite dinner plan conversation ever though.
