2011: A Year of Sweating (and Loving) the Small Stuff
December 23, 2011 § 3 Comments
Merry Christmas dear friends and family,
2011 was a year of eager anticipation and the deeply therapeutic process of “making ready” for big, big changes in 2012. Although I doubt any one of us would say we’ve been sitting idly by, our intentional focus on the small stuff meant more (blessed!) idle time than usual. Here are a few of the things I’d say were highlights from the first 11 months of the year:
- Spending endless hours enjoying each other while we’re still a family of three (hours at the park, hours at the cabin, hours playing “hockey puck” in the back yard)
- Tracking our second baby’s gradual in utero progress (growing fingernails, growing brain cells, growing, growing, growing)
- Making small home improvements that have resulted in an easier time of things from day-to-day
I’m back at Target working a reduced schedule so I can also focus on the small business Megan and I started together almost two years ago. This year, we had a cool cocktail party and shifted our focus from brides to gift givers. It’s easy to see these efforts are paying off and I appreciate all the encouragement, leads and other support you’ve given Commemorate the Date in the past year. It’s so exciting to see something grow from (almost) nothing into something!
Brad is still with Ameripride and has been working tirelessly to introduce a brand new budgeting tool to all managers company-wide. Anyone familiar with this kind of work knows that it takes “sweating the small stuff” to a whole new level and of course, Bradly rocked it. In his free time, Brad is also playing hockey. Hiram thinks this is amazing.
Speaking of, Hiram. He’s still at the stage where small changes each day are adding up to one big amazing boy. Of course, we’re seeing dramatic changes in how he can talk and move, etc. But the most fun is seeing him develop his sense of humor.
Since welcoming a whole new bundle of small stuff into our family on December 14, Brad, Hiram and I have a new focus for our idle time. Eldyn Lewis was born a full 9 days early (atta boy, little one) and the four of us have been staring happily into each others’ eyes since then.
