The Baby Whisperer

There we have it. Eldyn’s crying bout last night completed the famed colic trifecta (crying hysterically for at least 3 hours for at least 3 nights a week for at least 3 weeks) so I can officially complain about it now. Eldyn has colic. Which is a bummer and has me wishing away the first four months of his precious little life. Or at least it has me wishing away the first four months of evenings between 5 and 11 p.m.

Sheeshkabob buddy.

The whole situation was tolerable until Hiram’s daycare started telling us he’s been falling asleep in his play-doh. So much for the awesomeness of the 3-bedrooms-up scenario. At least it’s not forever. And actually, all the practice makes his mid-day non-colic consoling a snap. Here are scenarios that normal Eldyn always likes and colic-Eldyn likes once out of every 15 times.

Scenario 1: The Bjorn Squish

Wrap Eldyn up in his fuzzy blanket (the one from Aunt Naomi) and put him in the Baby Bjorn. Ensure his feet are completely squished up in the blanket and not hanging out the leg holes. Walk back and forth from the kitchen to the living room over and over. Do not stop. He can tell if you are marching in place.

Scenario 2: The Bounce and Blast

Wrap Eldyn up in a swaddle blanket and set him in the bouncy seat but do not buckle him in*. Put the fuzzy blanket (the one from Aunt Naomi) on his lap. Bounce him hard enough to wonder if he will fly off the seat. Turn on Hiram’s (very loud) nebulizer and place directly under his head– DO NOT TURN OFF! Continue for at least 1 hour or until the nebulizer starts to overheat.

Scenario 3: Fake Road Trip

Wrap Eldyn up in his full-body winter coat, ensuring the hood is covering his head. Place him in the car seat and give him a pacifier, which you will need to hold in his mouth. Buckle him in* and rock vigorously. Do not bother to put him in the car because he will spit out the pacifier while you are driving. Do not fall asleep or he will be ticked. When he wakes up he will be very sweaty and ticked.

* Eldyn prefers the more safety-conscious 5-point harness system over the bouncy seat’s meager 3-point arrangement.

I think you need a treadmill and you make scenario #1 – mommy workout time.
P.S. I would like you to post a picture of Hiram falling sleep in his Play-Do.

Sorry, I had the same exact issue…and when Liam turned 4 months (no lie, to the exact day) he was better. I didn’t want to wish those months away, but I kept telling myself that I wished he was 4-6 months old. Horrible, but it’s really hard- especially with a toddler. I have both of them at home and was so stressed, tired and miserable. It is so much better now. You just have to find ways to get help/breaks if you can- even if just for 30 minutes…and try to get sleep. I didn’t sleep for 4 straight months, and now feel like a million bucks. It does get better and my hubby and I kept telling eachother- hopefully we will look back at this and either laugh or barely remember it. 🙂 Hang in there.
