Hiram: 4 Years

June 6, 2013 § 1 Comment

If you ask Hiram, he’ll tell you he’s been waiting for this day for 46 years. Finally! Hiram is 4. He’s taking this new age, and all the responsibility that comes with it, very seriously.

Big Brother: Hiram has recently realized that Eldyn has a lot to learn. Luckily, Hiram knows quite a bit and is often happy to step up and teach his little brother a thing or two. Recent lessons have been on brushing teeth, going on steps, reading books and sharing. I think Professor Hiram would give e-Lew A’s in all subjects except that last one.

Handyman: Hiram loves to help us work on deck and has become the resident “level” expert. He learned to read the line level within 14 seconds of being exposed and is never, ever wrong. He also likes to wear his daddy’s work gloves and carry bricks while I follow behind him and (so far unnecessarily) worry about his toes.

Happy Blessings: As I was thinking about Hiram this morning, I prayed he would receive many “happy little blessings” on his birthday. I could have probably skipped this prayer altogether because I’m sure he will. The way he connects with people in his life – opening up slowly but reliably and then being so authentic and loyal – means he’s already built a network of people around him who know who he is and love him for that. By 8 a.m., he had already heard his first rendition of “Happy Birthday,” sung by every single person in our coffee shop. Everyone knew his name and everyone wanted him to be happy.

You are amazing, baby big boy. I love you. I love you. I love you.
