Hiram: 4 Years + 2 Months
August 6, 2013 § 1 Comment
4 Years + 2 Months was a big deal month for Hiram. Breaking his first bone and going on a family vacation was just the start. Here are a few other notables from this month.
Help! Hiram is getting to be a huge help around the house and this month, we officially assigned him the job of dish boy. He’s been setting the table and loading the dishwasher and even finds time to supervise Eldyn who is supposed to be sweeping. He takes it all extremely seriously and is already lobbying for more responsibility — a.k.a. dishwasher operations. I realize we are still in the honeymoon phase of chore-doing, but I wish we would have thought of this sooner. Dinner time prep has gone from least to most favorite time of the day, and not just for me.
Thoughts on Gettin’ Hitched: Hiram has a friend at school who is already talking about marriage. He told us about his friend’s plans a few weeks ago and still brings it up now and then. He seems a little vague on what, exactly, marriage would entail but he does know that married people do “nothing” and that running away is his best bet for thwarting things if they get too serious.
Turbo Boosters: This CHILD! I noticed the other day that the edge of his metal splint has big, deep scratches on it. Do you know why? From running full speed in his sandals, tripping and sliding on his hands, elbows and knees across any/all pavement. Repeatedly. We try to let him learn from his own mistakes but finally, after re-skinning his elbow for the third time just on Sunday I had to say something. “Hiram! Do you realize that every time you run that fast in your sandals, you fall down and skin your elbow? Maybe we should switch to your running shoes.”
“But then I’ll be hot,” he said.
