Hiram has been waiting and waiting and waiting for it to be time to start skating lessons and Saturday, it was FINALLY his day. Here are how the last few hours before his debut played out:
5:30 a.m. – Up and at ’em! Hiram was the first one up and dressed. He knew exactly what to wear because he’s been planning, revising and re-planning his outfit all week.
5:32 a.m. – Hiram begins the process of getting the rest of his lazy family out of bed.
5:35 a.m. Hiram begins the agonizingly long wait until skating lessons start at 10. We thought music class at 8:30 would be a welcome distraction but Hiram disagreed.
8:25 a.m. – Hiram threatens to boycott music class unless we let him go to skating lessons right that second.
8:30 a.m. – Hiram decides to begrudgingly participate in music class.
9:15 a.m. – It is finally time to go to skating lessons.
9:30 a.m. – Arrive at skating lessons 30 minutes early. Start getting him ready while trying to make everything take a long time. This wasn’t as hard as it sounds because Hiram had packed a “hockey bag” full of things he’d need including:
- Snow pants (a.k.a. breezers)
- MN Gophers hockey jersey
- Cup cozies (a.k.a. elbow pads)
- Hockey helmet
- Hockey skates
9:50 a.m. – Hiram is ready with not an inch of skin showing. He stood out a little because of this. There were a few other helmets, but none with the full face mask like Hiram had. Awesomely, Hiram looked the most like a hockey player of anyone there!!
10:00 a.m. – Hiram goes to his skating lesson! He spent most of the time throwing a stuffed animal across the rink and skating after it. He also learned to take fast little steps and bend his knees.
10:30 a.m. – Hiram was disappointed to learn that he had to get off the ice.
10:31: Hiram started waiting for his next skating lesson to start.
