Vacation Remembered: Saturday, July 26

If Day 1 is any indication, our vacation is going to be a charmed one. We were on the road by 9 a.m. and, through a fortuitous turn of events, were already out on a sailboat before nap time. That meant we spent almost our whole day in Lake City, MN where they were doing a sailing fundraiser for Leukemia. They also had a pretty cute little coffee shop called Rabbit’s Bakery where the boys talked us into getting a treat to share.
Our first night camping was, well, let’s just say it was a good exercise in refining our process for next time. We stayed at the Great River Bluffs State Park and our biggest accomplishment was keeping Eldyn from running headlong into the campfire. Dinner was improvised a little (forgot the tinfoil, steak was still frozen) but Hiram saved the day by using the hatchet to smash the almonds for green bean almondine. And for the record, sea salt dark chocolate makes for great S’mores.
Our first night in the tent was exciting too with lots of lightning and thunder. The boys slept straight through while I kept vigil to do who-knows-what if lightning struck.
