Black Hills 2015 – Day 9
July 7, 2015 § Leave a comment
It was our last full day of vacation and we filled it with the obligatory stops at both Wall Drug and the Corn Palace. Wall Drug was the highlight because each boy got a budget for souvenirs. Since it was our last day of vacation, B and I also had the urge to feed our kids a “healthy” lunch. And so, we ordered green beans. From Wall Drug. They were as you would imagine.
Then it was a very long drive to Mitchell and the Corn Palace. The most interesting part of the drive was the flattened billboards and dented-in silos that were the aftermath of one of the crazy storms we camp-cabined through. 100+ MPH winds across the plains is no funny-business.
I think we were all a little bit done with South Dakota by the time we got to the Corn Palace. I used my most enthusiastic voice to point out to Hiram that all the murals were made out of corn. He looked at the murals, blinked, looked at me, blinked and then walked away without a word. And so ends our vacation!
Tomorrow, it’s pile in the car and head home, sweet home.
